CPR+ F1 HELP May Not Be Available or Is Not Working

All CPR+ Users

The F1 Help screens for CPR+ v6.5 through v8.1 may not work if the following criteria are met:

  • You have upgraded to the latest security updates from Microsoft.
  • You are running the latest versions Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.
  • You are accessing the CPR+ F1 HELP file (help.chm) from a network drive.

This issue is the result of a new vulnerability in HTML Help files and the Windows operating system and has nothing to do with any specific CPR+ update. If running the Help file from a network drive (which virtually all LAN users are), the user will see “Action Canceled” or “The Page Cannot be Displayed.” If the user is accessing the help file from his or her local drive or via a Citrix local drive, it will work fine. From what D.H.S. has determined, the updated security settings in Internet Explorer and an Active X component (used by the help system) have been affected (or altered) by the Microsoft Security Update to address this HTML Help vulnerability.MS Technotes and Macromedia Forums Explain Issue The following Technotes from Microsoft explain the HTML Help vulnerability issue:

An Adobe forum (makers of the software that we use to create the F1 Help system) further explained the situation and the fix for this problem (which is outlined below).

Solution #1

After reading through the Microsoft Technote documents (specifically #896054), it appears the only “current” solution is to alter the Registry file in Windows. D.H.S. has created a Registry script that should fix the F1 HELP issue when accessing the help file through a company’s LAN:

Follow the steps below to update your system:

1. Click the link above to download the helpfix.zip or helpfix64.zip and uncompress (unzip) the file. (Please refer to your internal IT procedures for uncompressing files.)

2. Double-click the helpfix.reg or helpfix64.reg file. (The Registry Editor window appears.)

3. Click the Yes button. (Another Registry Editor window appears stating the file was successfully entered into the registry. Please note you must have admin rights to your workstation.)

4. Click the OK button to close the Registry Editor window. You should now be able to access the F1 HELP in CPR+.

Solution #2

If you notice that the F1 Help screen doesn't appear at all or you're given an error, this may be due to another issue. This issue deals with a particular DLL file not registering correctly with Windows and CPR+. We have created a quick guide that explains the steps in fixing this problem and that document can be found here.

As always, please contact D.H.S. if you have any questions. CPR+ Support Staff.
